It is that time of the year again. The time to not just eat copious amounts of food & grow fat
and drink till you eventually soil your clothes & those of the person standing next to you but the time to make New Year’s Resolutions. This act of declaration is a promise we make to ourselves to not repeat certain crap we engaged in, in the past year. Whether we uphold these or not is beside the point, we must vow to better ourselves in the coming year.
Below is our recommended list of the 10 New Year Resolutions You Must Make
10. Happiness is a daily decision
Accept it. Life is full of troubles and issues and is never going to be perfect the way you want it to be. You can choose to whine about what is missing and cry over what you don’t have or just be happy no matter what. Happiness is a daily decision and it is up to you to make that decision. Learn to ignore things that upset you, look past people who annoy you and wake up every morning telling yourself that you will make a conscious effort to be a more happy and joyous person today.
9. Get in shape
If the statistics of leading newspaper surveys are to be believed then we are turning into a nation of obese, out-of-shape, diabetic, highly-prone-to-heart-diseases’ people. If you do not want to find yourself in the categories mentioned above, please start living healthy by eating right and exercising. It is not about being a size zero or having eight pack abs; it is about being fit and strong and building your immune system. So make ‘HEALTHY LIVING’ the keyword for 2012.
8. Make certain wrong, right
We all have at some point in our lives hurt people close to us. Look at 2012 as an opportunity to set certain wrongs, right. Apologise for your errors; call a long lost friend who you knowingly or unknowingly hurt and make peace with your past. Doing so will liberate you of guilt and in the process you might welcome a true friend back in your life.
7. Not calling your Ex
While it is a nice idea to make good with long lost pals and imperative to make peace with your past, it is also totally necessary to crush your ex out of your life. When you come out of a relationship you must give yourself space and time. Holding onto what is now no longer yours will only bring you pain and unhappiness. Strictly instruct your brain and heart to stop thinking about her as someone special and erase her from your life. This will help you get over her and come back to being your true self.
6. Don’t tolerate people’s crap
In your bid to be a nice and good human being you end up tolerating the crap people throw at you. Now this person could be a boss, a colleague, a friend or a relative. Make it a point to stop being the punch bag for such people and ask them to back off. While this may sound like a very bold and rude thing to do, doing it will prove to them that you are not to be messed with. Plus it will save you a lot of cribbing and crying time over the ‘injustices’ they put you through.
5. Take up a hobby
This one you must have heard many times. With work, family, socialising, responsibilities there remains little or no time to pursue what you really like. Let 2012 be an exception to this. Remove time for yourself and pursue a hobby; be it reading, cooking, or playing a guitar. Embrace your inner talent and give voice to your true self.
4. Drink Responsibly
There have been umpteen ads that urge people to drink responsibly and to avoid driving when drinking / drunk. Yet every month or two there are reports of people dying due to rash drunk driving. Come New Year’s promise yourself to limit your drinking and to never drive when drunk. Following up on this promise will not only save your life but that of an innocent someone too.
3. Go on ‘liberating’ trip
All work and no play makes men super dull. So come 2012 plan a liberating, fun, adventurous trip with your boy gang. Now we don’t need to tell you what you can and must do on such trips.
2. Limit spending on gadgets
All men go gaga over any new gadget launched in the market. While having many tech toys to play with sounds good, it may not be easy on your pocket. Decide how much you are going to spend on new gadgets this year and then stick to that budget. For once, choose quality over quantity when it comes to technology.
1. Give your parents your respect and time
In the rush of life and the hormonal surge of youth, men end up ignoring their parents and not respecting them as much as they should. Turn this around and make a genuine attempt to bond with your parents and iron out any ideological differences you have with them. Investing in this relationship will be one of the best investments you ever make in your life.
